What Gear Do You Need To Bring?

The Minimum Equipment Needed

Notepad and Pen

Whilst the majority of the actions are very basic to start with it never hurts to take notes.

A RAW Photograph?

Attendees are invited to bring one RAW image they would like me see edited. This creates a diverse image edit pool.

Questions

Before attendees arrive it would be good for them to create a list of specific questions they may have that relate to their planned workflow.

Digital photography can be immersive or as simple as you desire. Editing of imagery depends greatly on the amount of compression the base image starts with. Shooting in RAW format will allow a greater option for editing, a greater leeway in the allowance for corrections to levels and other stored data once the shot has been taken. This introductory workshop for editing takes in basic editing techniques using predominantly Adobe Lightroom but also touching on Adobe Photoshop CS6.

Points Covered
This initial workshop is aimed at introducing the photographer to the basics of editing. How to shoot for the best results possible and then take the results of that and polish them off with the final processing. In order to get that workflow down I will be looking to cover points including but not limited to.

  • Planning the Basics - Scene and composition selection?
  • The basic Adobe Lightroom Adjustments
  • Spot / Blemish Removal
  • Creating Grad Filters in Adobe Lightroom
  • Creating presets to automate the basics in Adobe Lightroom.
  • Photoshop Basics
  • Creating Watermarks in Photoshop
  • Creating Photoshop Actions to Automate the process
  • Final Image Compression for Saving

Don't let the content overview scare you off. The editing process in photography can actually become quite therapeutic and will surely open your eyes into understanding more about the whole shooting process. Once you understand the basics of editing you will notice that that also then becomes a part of the thought process before you even take your shots.

Number of Attendees
This workshop will take place in my small office so space will be limited to just six persons.

Bring A RAW Shot
One of the best ways to get a better understanding of the editing approach would be to see how one should approach a broad diversity of editing situations. To this end one way that will serve the workshop well is if attendees can bring a RAW image they would like to see addressed for editing during the workshop.

Please see below for timings, location and attendance costs. Also please do feel free to reach out should you have any specific questions relative to attending this course.
